One of the most common questions we hear at Peck’s Taekwondo America is:
“How much do martial arts classes cost?”
It’s a great question—and one that deserves a little more explanation than just a number. Cost is certainly an important factor when choosing a school, but it’s also important to understand that martial arts training is an investment in yourself (or your child), not just another monthly bill.
When comparing schools, you’ll notice a wide range of prices—and a wide range of value. Let’s look at the most common types of programs you’ll find in and around the Triangle area, and what usually comes with each.
Community Programs
Community programs are often taught in places like churches, community centers, or recreation departments. They’re usually the most affordable option—sometimes even free—but they come with tradeoffs.
Classes are often smaller and more personal, but schedules can be limited and subject to change depending on the facility. You may train in a gym one week and a park the next. For some families, this flexibility is fun and adventurous.
Typical price range: Free to about $100/month
Pros: Low cost, small classes, flexible locations
Cons: Limited schedule, fewer amenities
Part-Time Schools
Some instructors operate part-time schools out of leased storefronts. These schools usually have a dedicated space, which allows for better mats, pads, and equipment than a temporary location.
Schedules are more consistent, but they may still be limited to a few evenings a week. Part-time schools usually have one or two instructors and may group different ages and ranks together to manage class flow.
Typical price range: $75–$150/month
Pros: Dedicated training space, consistent schedule
Cons: Limited class times, smaller staff, fewer program options
Professional, Full-Time Schools
This is where Peck’s Taekwondo America falls. Our Raleigh and Morrisville locations are full-time, professional schools that have been serving the Triangle community for more than 30 years.
What does that mean for you?
- Consistent schedules: We offer classes six days a week with a variety of times that work for most schedules.
- Professional staff: You’ll be taught by nationally certified black belt instructors, supported by a leadership team trained in teaching skills, safety, and student development.
- Proven curriculum: As part of the Taekwondo America organization, our students benefit from a structured curriculum, regular testing opportunities, and access to regional and national events.
- Life skills & character development: Beyond kicks and punches, we teach perseverance, focus, respect, and confidence – skills that carry over to school, work, and life.
- Community: With over 200 active students across our schools, families connect, grow, and celebrate together.
Typical price range (full-time schools nationwide): $150–$200/month
Other Considerations
- Equipment: Students need uniforms and protective gear, which we provide through our pro shop to ensure quality and safety.
- Events & extras: Testing fees are not included in tuition and are collected separately at each rank promotion. Optional upgrade programs – such as Black Belt Club and Masters Club – offer additional training, goal-setting, and advanced opportunities. Students can also choose to participate in special events like tournaments, summer camps, and community activities for even more growth and fun.
- Memberships: We keep things simple with straightforward membership options – no hidden fees, no surprises.
